Question:
Hello fellow buggy pushers!
we have just found out we are expecting baby no.2 who will arrive when my ds is 2 and a half. Can anyone reccomend a pushchair that will fit both kids in comfortably? We would prefer one that isnt too wide to get through doorways and have heard about the Phil and Ted ones but need some real experiences of kids with a similar age gap to ours please.
I also met a lady with a buggy from New Zealand which had a seat up high for a toddler - it was fab and she said that she's asked daily where people can get one? Does anyone know where they can be bought in the UK or if they can be imported (assuming anyone else knows what I'm talking about there!)
Thanks people, all advice appreciated
Also goes without saying that we need to pay as little as poss but without compromising quality etc.

Funny that people rave about Jane buggies. Perhaps they have improved, but 2 years ago when I bought my travel system I would say it was a major contributing factor towards a very miserable first few months of motherhood. Very difficult to use, nowhere to put the shopping. No instructions to speak of. If I had my time again I would probably go for a stokke xplory, a maclarens or a bugaboo thingy.

Did you ask the lady from New Zealand what her buggy was called?

Yes I did...and she told me...and I promptly forgot!
Answers:
I think the New Zealand pram is called the Mountain Buggy.
Someone posted me the details last week when i put out the same post as this.
Have opted for the Jane powertwin, as best reviews and cheapest from twoleftfeet.co.uk (2nd hand ebay not a great deal cheaper!)
There will be 20 months between my 2, i dont know that you'll use your double pram for long as 2 and a half yr old you may find will probably rather walk, may be wise to invest in a kiddiboard.
Good luck!

Rather than a buggy board, you might want to have a look at one of these -
Cheapest prices for these are usually eBay by a small margin. OH found pushing a pushchair behind youngster on a BB a bit awkward...

Also forgot to mention Buggypod, a single clip on buggy that folds away flat when not in use, quite a few on e-bay. However some people have had problems getiing them to fit, but are pleased with technical support.

The New Zealand Buggy is actually called the ADVENTURE BUGGY. There is a mountain buggy but is not the one you have seen.
You cant buy it anywhere in England but you can buy it direct - dont worry about this, it works perfectly delivered to you door and we were offered a FULL money back guarentee if we were unhappy about anything - we bought it and it is superb
I posted a resonse a few weeks ago about this buggy and can definately say it is better than everything else.
It is actually made by Phil and Ted who own this the company and who were also behind the "phil and Ted 's" brand everyone now see's here in england. I think if anyone knew the true story about how the company who now have the rights to sell under this name have treated Phil and Ted (the real people) you might have some ethical and moral issues with the company selling under the brand of "phil and Teds"
Anyway - the buggy can be found at
Speak to Phil the person ( could mention Paul and Zoe from Middlesbrough ) and he will personally look after you.
We have bought this buggy and can promise you you would not be dissapointed - It is fantastic in every way -
Delivered to your door, tracked and with fantastic customer services
It conforms to all european standards and its build, quality, ease of use is great
Everytime were out, we get asked about it
It might seem expensive but iits 100% worth it

Hello Paul& Zoe,
Yes at last! That's the one - Hooray! Did you get the single with the toddler seat or the double? I was thinking that the toddler seat would suit my girl down to the ground as she is so nosey/adventurous she'd love to be up there!
How much did you pay for yours altogether and which one did you opt for exactly?
Thanks for solving the mystery!!!!!!

We went for the single buggy with the toddler seat plus the extra rain cover for the toddler seat in the Dark Navy Blue.
It came exactly as expected including the tracking and from memory the full cost was approx £520 - for everthing including delivery etc
We got a rain cover for the seat, storm cover for the buggy, UV mesh type cover, two different covers for the inside ( summer and winter )
Our 2 and half year old loves being in the seat, and is also very chatty and nosey.
It is totally easy to push and fits through all doors etc
As we did, spending that sort of money over the net and not even physically seeing was initially a bit of worry, but send Phil and Email, ask him to phone you ( remember the 12 hour time difference ) and I am sure you will be convinced. He was brilliant to deal with and would 100% recommend
We havent used MSE much and I think you can send private message if you want to then phone me to have a chat about it
regards
Paul

From personal experience £520 is alot of money to pay fora double buggy that you will only use fora very short time!
My 2 daughters are 15 months apart and I have another 2 that are 21 months apart (10 years between 2 groups) 2 year old don't want to go ina pram for long no matter how high or comfy they are! I eventually bought a mcclaren side by side umbrella fold buggy that was suitable from birth (had 3 other twins at varying times before this) it was great, nice to push, able to get through standard doors and folds easily to fit in most cars. Cost about £200. Definately worth the money.

theres 16 months between my first 2, and I bought a 2nd hand double buggy , tbh I found that it was heavier and wider (obviously), so I ended up walking with little one, and perching her on the handles of our proper pram facing me if that makes sense, she thought it was fun, and it was a lot ligther than lumping a big thing around, - it did not damager the pram (travel system), as we are now using it for no 3....(I must learn to watch more telly as I dont think the pram will worl for no 4, lol)

I'm not too concerned about the cost...to be honest I know I'll be able to sell it on in a year or two. These buggies are so popular that there will be a demand for a 2nd hand one on ebay.
I think the toddler seat rain cover is extortionately priced at nearly £70 though. I will make do with a rain poncho and save the cash there.
The basic buggy is £299 and the toddler seat is about £90 I think,
A lady has imported lots of them into the UK apparently because the abcbuggy co. was actually losing money exporting to the UK cos of high shipping costs, so I have been given her address to deal with directly.
I know my girl wont want to be in the buggy mush as toddlers prefer walking but for the times I have to hurry through town etc I want her to be happy and comfy and have a nice view of the world! So in my opinion the initial outlay will be worth it although I will have to save up quite a bit!
Here's a pic for those who havent seen it.

i had an age gap of 23 months between my daughters and everyone with simular age gaps said don't bother with a double they never used one get buggy board instead. it didn't work for me they were very hard to push buggy around with board on unless you have very long arms. don't even attempt going up or down a curb. and my daughter kept jumping off and running off. i then bought a maclaren twin from mothercare was about £125 but it was money well spent. we used it for about 9- 11 months until my oldest was old enough to walk wherever we went

What a lovely pram! with thoose big wheels it will be a dream to push...
as an experienced pusher though (childminder) I would say that looks like a heavy load and you can't see the baby in the front at all-unless you walk around! I would recomend a lighter pram with smaller wheels if you have to lift it to put in the car boot!
I have a side by side buggy I bought from Argos a few years ago and it is still in good nick£50 in the sale-I did use my old rain cover though to bring down the price. A side by side buggy means both children can have a sleep as both seats lie flat...
Their is lots of pro's and cons over which is best...
Best Wishes...

Thanks Nicola,
Yeah I can't imagine mine on a Buggy board either- no chance! she'd be off in a flash! We know we wont be using it for too long but even 6 mnths is worth it IMO. Especially with a newborn, I just want as easy a life as possible! I know toddlers love to walk but mine will only be 2 and a half and kids that age dont walk very fast - sometimes you just cant afford to go that slow! Also we'd like to go for quite long Country walks and little legs soon get tired.
Thanks for sharing your experience

i'm really suprised you can manage it with a 4 year old in the front - i tried one with my then nearly 3 year old, and we toppled it over in the shop. it was so unstable with a large toddler in the front. he loved it, but we had to pursuade him that "crash" was not a feature we were looking for in a buggy. in the end we have just made him walk everywhere, and bought a new buggy for the baby.

can recommend - have raved about it elsewhere. we are trying it at the moment with a buggy board as we do a nanny share with someone else and will let you know how it goes!
they sell on ebay for around £380 or so - £499 new from back in action
