Hey again, constantly on the "wanna" and thanks again for all help.
My old phone (had it for 3 years) has packed in on me, its a nokia and I'd quite like to stick with them, although I'm more than ready to try something new depending on somebodys feedback/advice. Anyway, ideally it should be £20-£40, I dont want a pay monthly contract so any ideas anyone.

if you want a simple, no-frills nokia, then go for something like the nokia 1100
you'll pick one up on ebay dead cheap

Sainsbury's have the Nokia 1100 on PAYG for £39.95 with £20 of airtime included.
The Nokia 1600 has a colour screen and retails at just under £35 (try Googling!)

Thanks for the reply, this looks like what Im after but it has mixed reviews. Its quite a step down from what Im used to (had old nokia ngage) and am used to fiddling with the software on it, but thats besides the point, cheers for the link.

cheers, I have had a look at these but would prefer a colour screen if possible (just to keep my street cred up :S), not bothered about a camera as I see myself upgrading my phone when I graduate or maybe even next summer so just has to do me till then.

When Nokia went into the colour market, it took a while for them to bring out decent colour phones. The response time for their phones was very poor.
I recommend you try and avoid Nokia on your budget for the time being.
If you want a cheap phone, you'll probably find the Motorola L6 to be the best of the budget phones. However, this depends on whether you're a guy or girl. Whilst flat, its fairly wide.
The Motorola V3 is also a good phone.
Within your budget you won't get any other phones from a retailer that I would recommend. There are phones such as the Samsung E530 which is good for girls but they are no longer available.

Well, for a guy, I'd get the L6. Excellent call quality - the sheer clarity of the phone call is amazing.
If you want a flip phone which is better to put in the pocket, then go for the V3.

I know 6 people who have had Motorolas (four of them had the V3) during the last 12 months on contract and every one of them has broken down, not just once but several times each.

Fair enough. Motorolas especially the V3s are more fragile than other phones, but I know just as many people that haven't had them broken down. Furthermore, its easy to say that seeing as Motorola sell so many phones - you're bound to know a few people with Motorola phone trouble.
However:
1) What phone would you recommend in the £20-£40 range that is better? Even if they are more durable, the majority of phones out there are poor.
2) How many phones do you know that are reasonably thin but a lot less fragile? Nokia's are bricks. Sony Ericssons are good, but there are no budget phones in this price range. Samsung ones are good but are also fragile - they're mainly girl phones. Recommend one.
