In a mid price range for a decent model with energy saving system, the cheapest offer on the EBac 2650e is £142.99 delivered from
EBac themselves do clearance offers, 2 models at the moment
For something along the smaller models but still reputable make the cheapest Amcor QT120 I can find is available from Home Style Shop at £99.99 plus £4.99 delivery (total of £2 cheaper than the Empire Direct offer)

You may be very lucky and find the half price clearance Challenge Compact at a local Argos store for £49.99

Our rented flat suffers terribly from condensation - now that it is winter I cen't keep opening the windows so want to find a cheap dehumidifier that could keep the whole flat mould-free. I'm sick of sponging the walls with bleach every 3 days and the kids' asthma is starting to play up. Unfortunately we are stuck here for another year and can't afford to move... It was managably mouldy until the landlord put in double glazing over the summer, but the mould is now going mad! How big a machine do I need, and where can I get a cheap one???? I can't find the half price Argos one, by the way - nowhere local has it... Thanks!

I was looking for one recently and was taken aback at how expensive they were. I eventually bought this one from Homebase for £63.99 (instore) which was the best deal I could find.

It says it will remove 10 litres a day but the tank only holds 2 litres so will require emptying several times a day but you can attach a 'hose' for continuous emptying. I only have it on at night in the children's room which was badly affected by condensation but it's very quiet and doesn't disturb them while it's running. After a week the room feels a lot warmer and it's collecting less water so seems to be doing the trick!

Recently bought one from Homebase for the same price, except it was Homebase branded and has a 3.5L tank. (10L/day capacity)

Well, after much reading, I have decided to go for this one..
it looks good, and has a 3,3ltr tank and will do for the whole house.

Hi,
I have just been onto the Ebac site and on some models (clearance lines) in the write up it speaks of a castor conversion kit. If you can, buy something that already has the castors fitted as standard, as they are quite heavy to move. The ebac my friend purchased needs to be lifted to different locations and as they are quite bulky (and heavy), it is a point which possibly needs consideration depending on circumstances of course.
For DK. I have had no problems at all with my Delonghi appliance (don't want to speak too soon) and I am amazed where all the water comes from. Maybe we go too far with all this double glazing, cavity wall insulation, roof insulation etc., etc., and I too try and keep the house well ventilated, sometimes to no avail. I hope jaype finds what she's looking for quickly as I know it will ease her workload somewhat. Regards - sally

Do you think it would do a whole flat? If i had to choose a room that needed it most, I don't think I could... Have spent an hour this morning scrubbing walls with bio washing powder. Last week I tried vinegar, before that bleach. This can't go on - I have better things to do with my life!

By the way - if anyone can think of one under £100 but that you can get something like an online discount or Pigsback points for then that will help. Seems like I have to spend, so i may as well get money off.

This might help or it might not, but Focus were doing small dehumidifiers for £19.99. When I say small, they do fit on a shelf or ledge so aren't the biggest in the world so might not do for your purposes but we bought one for our conservatory a few weeks back (so I don't know if the offer is still running) and it's made a huge difference in there. When it's dry, we've been emptying the water every week but it's been every 2 or 3 days when the weather has been particularly damp or we've had more than one or two people in there.
hth in some way

I can't say I know too much about them, but one that sits on a shelf will be no good to you at all, I think that would only have a 250ml tank so you'd be emptying it constantly. Around the £100 mark I think you'd struggle to find anything more than a 10 litre one, it does seem that you get what you pay for in dehumidifiers, though you can hire industrial ones for about £100 a week. I have no experience of them other than the one I bought but it's quiet and compact and does what it says. Although at first you'd probably have to empty it a lot (unless you 'plumb it in'), once the space dries out it would get less frequent. To do a whole flat obviously site it in a central location and leave all the internal doors open. Make sure all the windows are closed while it's on (I had it on the first night with the windows open a crack and torrential rain all night... duh!) and there's no wet washing hanging around.

Hope that helps.

This one from Woolies

I have that one and am very happy with it as it's very quiet and compact. However, I bought mine recently from Homebase (in-store) for £63.99.

I have a 5 bedroom Edwardian house.
1 bedroom has double glazing but the others don't.
Despite opening windows and freezing I still get condensation so I feel that the solution to no condensation and a warm house has to be a dehumidifier.
I haven't a clue but I 've been looking on "allergy matters.com" and the "Amcor" machines look impressive.
I don't mind spending up to £280.00 but I haven't a clue about these things!
Can you give me some advice?
Cheers,
DK

As we had three dehumidifier threads in the 'I wanna' board, I've merged them all into one thread to make it easy to find the helpful posts/tips.
