Question:
As the title says really.
I have been on the neighbours from hell website, they recommend getting the police involved after keeping a log of events.
this is really stressing me out, out of forty neighbours - he is the only one to do it.
My concern is the police wont do anything - or he'll continue.
Any more ideas?

have you tried talking to them and asking why they insist on keep blocking your drive?
Answers:
Best course of action would be to ask them not to, you have to live int he same street as them remember. Going in all guns blazin could be a bad way to go about things. If your asking them to not park there falls on deaf ears then contact the police and see what they say. Keep a log of dates and times if you have a digital camera take photos too all evidence is good.
If your neighbour is parked on the road and the road isnt marked it is likley there is nothing wrong after all the car is taxed, if it isnt then call the police and it will be sorted for not paying tax. The police will also contact the owner and tell them the errors of their ways. Local council are always a good contact too, that is the route I took with someone parking accross the pavement infront of their own drive rather than pulling on to their drive.

Speak with your local Neighbourhood Police Officer or PCSO. They are there to make life easier for you. They will speak with your neighbour if you feel unable to and enforce if need be. As an ex Neighbourhood Manager I know that this is a problem for many people but is easily remedied. A problem shared is a problem solved.

One of my neighbors has a visitor who kept parking between my driveway and the one nextdoor. She didn't completly block either drive but did make it hard for us to park 4 cars on, as do the familiy she visits. I left a polite note on the windscreen and she stopped parking there. Mind you they are reasonable people.

There is no offence of obstruction if you are outside your driveway and trying to get into it, but there is if you are parked in the driveway and are trying to leave it.........
If I was that was inclined if I came back in my car and they were parked over the end of the drive I would park as close to their car as I possibly could just out of badness! But then thats just tit for tat and soooo childish!!! lol
Yip, keep a log but the police will only tell you what I have said above, however, if it escalates into a neighbour dispute then the log might be handy when it comes to ASBOs etc....

It is an offence to block someone's drive. You can receive a parking ticker for it. I'd contact the Police, if they insist on parking across your drive. If you feel you can't approch them, contact the Police and or your local anti-social behaviour unit.
Tha car has to be blocking your drive on your side of the road tho', noone will do anything if the car is parking opposite your driveway.

i thought you only had to leave a drive clear if there is a dropped kerb??

yes that's right. This is because it's been designated as a driveway. Some people install a drive without asking planning permission, and therefore leave the kerb raised. This wouldn't be classed as blocking a driveway if a car was parked across the entrance.

i had this problem with my neighbour. kent police told me that if you can't get on your drive, tough luck and if you are blocked in they will only do something if you have a medical appointment or kids/ school etc. they said it's a nuisance but not illegal/wrong

If a car is parked in front of your drive but on the road then there is not much you can do about it.

Thanks for all your replies -
We have tried speaking to him - but he is very arrogant, ignorrant and downright rude. Waves his hands at me in front of the kids and says I should buy a car with better power steering!
Out of forty people that live in our close (only us and next door have drives) he is the only one to block us. There is a grass kerb he could pull up onto that would mean he doesn't block us. We have asked several times for him to pull up on the verge. (The verge is only a bit of land with a tree on, and not a path.) We do have a dropped kerb.
I have kept a log, and will see the police tomorrow.
Just a note re legalities - this is what I have found out so far -
Highway code point 217 Do not park in front of an entrance to a property.
If you have off street parking with a dropped kerb there is a law that is an implied term that you will have access to your property. Any obstruction of the highway is an offence. "Wilful obstruction of the highway." is an offence and is subject to section 137 Highways act 1980. This states that "Police officer may arrest without warrant any person whom he sees commiting an offnce against this section."

sounds like a right prat. Can you tell your husband/a bloke to have 'words' with him?! if he's a nutter id be wary of going to the police...you need to get your other neighbours on side and have words with him (not shouting, calmly so it infuriates him) IN FRONT of other neighbours so he gets embarrassed..once he realises his vendetta is being seen by all and sundry it should embarrass him into giving in and not do it any more. maybe get your visitors to park outside his drive slightly, not enough to block it but enough so when he comes round shouting to say 'what?? you could get a tank in there!!!!'

Yes he is a tosser!
Unfortunately, where we live, my house and next door was built several years after the rest of the street. All the people in the close are close - and us and next door are out on a limb. (I think they think we're in the posh houses!!!) To add insult to injury - next door was repossessed a few weeks ago - so we really are going it alone!
I'm going to play the "the nasty man is shouting at the pregnant lady" card and "in front of the children I mind as well!"
Dh wants to buy an old banger, block him in and throw away the keys - but I want to be "bigger" than that!

My gran had this problem with various people claiming that they 'were only going to be five minutes' as they went into the toy shop next door with their brats. Half an hour later, they were still there. So, my gran got the number off the council for the people that deal with this sort of thing and many a car got towed away. Now, the toy shop has shut and they got a disabled parking space outside the drive so we don't have that problem any more

my husband was told by the police over the phone that if a car is blocking you in you can move the vehicle yourself but you must not cause any damage to it in the process so he got a couple of trolly jacks and moved it down the road you should have seen there faces when they came out they thought they were going mad lol.
