Question:
Looking to buy a warm comfy bed for my lovely cat.
Would like one with 'sides' if that makes sense - rather than just a big cushion.
Any recommendations?

I have only one recommendation - don't bother! I have two cats and neither sleep in either of the two cat beds they have. Cats will sleep where they want, usually on your bed.

I agree ha ha - our cat doesn't use his bed either.
Altough we have got a like fleecey thing and he sits on that whilst watching TV.

I thought that to - our last cat sneered at the bed we got her and decided that she would much rather sleep on my bed. However our new cat seems to like being curled up somewhere saoft- preferably with sides. We have had her a month and I was determined not to buy her a bed unless I thought she really would use it. At the moment she she sleeping (sometimes) in a cardboard box padded with blankets.
So - I am going to buy her a bed, if she doesn't use it, well - that's cats for you and the local sanctuary is always grateful to receive beds, blankets etc.

I brought a cat bed for my bed - sniffed at it and walked away. They prefer the cardboard box closed up with a big circle hole (like crisp boxes in shops) in the shed as their beds... or my bed if they are inside.

When our cat was a wee little kitten I saw a beautiful willow basket with a cushion at a pet store - I almost died of shock as it was £100. I took myself to Dunelm and bought a huge circular basket with handles and a piece of fluffy fleece for the inside - cost me about £14 in total. He outgrew the basket after several months but he still loves the cushion and regularly sleeps there.

I bought my cat a bed from wilkinsons, really cheap and looked lovely sadly he wouldnt entertain it, then i tried him with a cat iglo from asda, they sell them in wilkinsons also quite cheap but he wouldnt use that either , so he now sleeps on my bed or on the pc chair...lol

Don't think you can beat a cardboard box with an old jumper in the bottom. Just tell the cat he can't go in it. Cat will definately always be found in there!

I bought my cat his bed in Argos & it's one of the cosy igloo types. It took him a couple of weeks to sniff it out & decide that yes it was a perfect regular sleeping place.
When the weather turns warm he doesn't go inside the 'igloo' any more, but squashes down the top to make it a nice doughnut shape to snuggle into. I know winter is coming to an end once he does this.

The only one my cat has ever slept in is a lined wicker basket I bought from teh 99p shop, got her another one today as the old one was a bit manky!

Well, my kitties just love their igloo bed which I got for them out of Argos. They both get in and snuggle up together. My kitty Tabitha (now deceased) adored her igloo bed which came from Lidl. However my current two kitties would rather get into the bath with me than get into that. She may be gone but her territory is still very much in existance!!
Have you got a cat carrier basket? You could take the front gate thingy off that and put a blanket or cushion inside. My kitties like to snooze in theirs - think it's because of it having sides, a top and that they can see out of it but hide at the same time...like I don't know where they are (I play along by pretending not to see them).
Another item as mentioned by another poster is a wicker basket with a cushion in it. I have one of those doughnut things in mine - that was a fav of Baba (now deceased also) but current kitties don't have any problem with it. The wicker basket was only a few quid out of Ikea - the cheapest one they had but big like a laundry basket. Au Naturelle do lots of cheapie baskets too. The donut thingy was a bit expensive, and I've already donated previously rejected ones to charity - won't be buying any more of those.
And lastly...my not so little kitten Dylan would be delighted to sleep under my duvet if he got his way, while big Teddy boy prefers my pillow.
So, I think your best option would be to use what you've got already, eg the cat carrier basket. If you don't have one of those then a wicker basket - if kitty rolls her eyes at that then you could use it somewhere else in the house. Then I'd suggest an igloo as 3rd on your list - Argos is cheapest, or Lidl when they are available. Fourth and final option...you give up your bed....

I have 2 cats that sleep in an unheated conservatory and they both sleep in "igloos". 3rd cat sleeps on our bed (despite having her own igloo!)and BIG cat sleeps in the living room on a special igloo that squashes down to become a basket. Wilkinsons igloos are cheap and mine had previously favoured cardboard boxes!

Over the years my cat has rejected various beds bought for her in favour of my bed, unfortunately when she sleeps on my bed she is forced to sleep at such an angle that means there is no room for me so it can actually be a bit uncomfortable for her stretched out to the max!
She also loves fleece throws (the type you can get in the cheapy shops for less than a fiver) and they are normally big enough to cut into three or four different blankets for her. Why not get a fleece throw for your little one to sleep on then when you decide what type of bed to get you can put the fleece in the bed and it will already smell of him/her so they will be more inclined to sleep in it.
My favourite bed that Tiggy has had is one. She obviously could not set foot inside it though, not after I'd spent all that money on it!

My two cats have an igloo bed, a normal basket type bed with sides, a huge doughnut thing with a bottom and a cat sofa (I didn't buy that though, a friend who worked in a pet shop saved it for me when the shop shut down), neither cat uses any of the beds. The eldest cat much prefares to sleep on a newspaper, some newly washed clothes (so she can cover them in cat hair of course) or on top of a card board box, if available. My youngest cat tends to just flop to the floor wherever he's standing when he gets tired, or he sleeps in the bath.
I'd say argos if you want to buy one, that way you wont shell out a lot of cash, although I'd agree with SnowyOwl use what you've got. Being a cat, she'll no doubt turn her nose up at anything you buy, then sleep next to it just because she can lol.

A favourite cat bed with all of my cats past and present is a radiator bed - a type of hammock/cradle that hangs over the radiator - especially cosy when heating is on.

i have a fridge magnet that says if you want the best seat in the house you will have to move the cat, that about sums it up here. our lot seem to prefer cardboard boxes too with old fleecy jackets or jumpers in fact the big cat is so cosy in his shed he will only come in if it is going to be really cold

I decided to go with the wicker basket option. Bought one for £8 in International today, have put his towel and fleecy blanket in .. so it's a case of wait and see. He'd nto going to bed yet - too busy runnign up and down the stairs!
