My advice is to wait until the Nintendo DS Lite comes out.
It comes out on the 23rd, so unfortunately not before your sons birthday, but it is a massive improvement on the original DS.

I haven't found any bundles, but you can get the DS Lite on its own for £94.99 on the GAME website (,)..
It's £99.99 but you can use to get £5 off.
