Hi all,
I am soon to be moving into my first house (YAY!!!!!) after renting flats and need some help to find a houseloads worth of cheap furniture/fittings/white goods etc... A mixture of New & Secondhand ideally..
I read somewhere about a big warehouse near Stansted airport but I cant find it again... Any hints would be greatly apprecited! - It is in Surrey/South London area

Do you have a Salvation Army Thrift shop near you? Most second hand shops are over priced. I live in east London and there is a good Sally Army shop in Walthamstow E17. They have good quality items at very reasonable prices (eg, the computer desk I'm now sitting at was £20 and I've seen it brand new for £100+. And I got a beautiful Welsh dresser for £30.) Do you have a Prince of Wales Hospice shop near you? If so check them out they have some good second hand bargains.

Find your nearest auction rooms and go there.
Thats what i did. I got a full bedroom suite, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables x 2, 2 dressing tables and a big chest of drawers oh and a headboard all for £50. They were stag Minstrel, which is a bit dated, very dark brown wood with ugly handles BUT i then went to Ikea and bout a couple of bags of door knobs for £1.99 for 6. Silver ones. Changed them all over and now it all looks really modern, especially with my chocolate and gold bedroom theme. Im really chuffed with them!!
Well worth going. Also if stuff doesnt sell they will usually sell it to you for buttons afterwards just to get rid of it. I bought another dressing table for £3.50 coz it hadnt sold and was going to be sat in the rain for a week until the owner could come back to pick it up. Just sanded it down and varnished it.
