Yes. Read one.
(A book - geddit?). Seriously, I always read on plane journeys and that gets the time to pass by. You can also waste a few hours eating, a few hours watching the inflight movies, a few hours snoozing ...

don't forget to take a stroll or 2, keeps the circulation going.

I've always found it very useful to drink a couple of litres of water while travelling on planes, makes getting up every few hours a necessity. ;D
Haven't planes got those personal entertainment systems now? That mean you can stop and start a tv, films or music when you choose? Then they have hundreds of different pieces of entertainment?

The best way to kill time on a long flight is sleeping. Try to get a seat with no one sitting next to you so you can fold the arm rests up and make more space or try to get a seat by the emergency exits so that you have more leg space.
Avoid alcohol, it will give you a temporary high but will then dehydrate you.
If you have small children make sure you have something to occupy them . If they are happy your flight will be a lot smoother.
Take a good book / interesting magazines / A collection of newspapers on the flight.
Also change into something comfortable as soon as you get on to the aircraft ( A jogging suit , PJ's etc , slippers , thick socks) . If you feel physically relaxed you will enjoy the flight more.
Last point is complete all the immigration / landing / custom cards as soon as you are handed them ( Or before if you can collect from the flight desk)

On most flights you have to have a good reason to get a seat by the exit. Either a medical condition (with docs note) or be exceptionally tall as everyone wants these seats.
Mum flew to the states and had a nightmare trying to get an exit seat because of her knees.
Try those little travel boards games, a portable games console perhaps (check with the airlines beforehand that it won't interfere with electricals on board), a crossword or puzzle book ......
Take lots of little things so if you get bored of one thing you can move onto another.
The flight will whizz by anyway - by the time you've taken off, watched the safety movie, had a drink and food, hot towel, a film then a snooze before more food and drink, they'll be packing up to land!
... and hats off to you. I'm terrified of flying and despite flying 3 times (in the hopes it will get better!) I don't think I will ever fly again.
