Question:
Hey everybody I was wondering if anybody could help me out with finding a new printer, I have 3 requirements really,
1: The printer needs to be a bargain (maybe around the £50-60 mark)
2: Cheap compatable ink which gets a good ammount of print outs per cartridge.
3: Fairly decent quality print outs.
Any help will be muchly appreciated, thanks.

Hi
I have an epson 42 printer which i bought cheaply-definatley in your price range.
I only need to print out text for the most part and the ink cartridges you can buy quite cheaply (the compatible ones are available quite easily-i bought a compatible black ink cartridge from wilkinsons for less than £4! Bargain and Ive had no problems with the quality)
The printouts are fine. I have used my printer to send out CV's and that sort of thing and i thought the quality was fine.

Wow!!
Ink cartridge for less than £4.00.
Gee wizz, your average ink cartridge will knock you back an average £20.00.
Still, can't beat your all-in-one printers these days that let you have your own personal photocopier at home.
Mine is a Lexmark P6250.
Standalone photocopier.
Prints out pages in a couple of seconds.
Pricey cartridges.
Worth a mention.
Yep, printers definitely are down in price.
Pop into your local pc world or look up Argos for samples. You may be surprised.

Hello prozak
I'll move your thread over to the 'Techie Stuff' board, for the techie experts to help you.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see ) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I'd recommend something like the Canon IP4200, it's slightly above you're budget
(Ebuyer are doing it at £61.46 + P&P) but it's a great little printer.
It does good quality photos, prints directly onto CDs and DVDs and also does double sided printing plus North Devon Computers do very cheap sets of compatable cartridges (I own the older IP4000 and a full set of five cartridges is about £5)

Cartridges for printers vary form £2 to £30
Some manufacturers eg Lexmark, HP use systems where the whole print head is replaced each time others eg Epson just replace the ink resevoir.
Guess which ones cost most!
Not saying which is best coz if the head on an espon blocks or goes duff its replace a printer time

Try "inkexpress.co.uk" they sell very good quality ink at low prices. and they will "ship" to your home / office worth a look, I use them all the time and can get the ink for my printer (R200) for £10 for all 6 inks...

I know this is out of the posters budget, but anyone looking at this wanting a printer - i recommend for an all in one, a HP photosmart 2610. the most awesome printer I have owned for the price. It's a bargain for a printer/photo/copier/scanner/fax

Each reply poster will have their opinions and favourites, here's mine. I have had two Epsons, and both suffered from the same nozzle clog problem, So I bought the cheapest Canon I could find at the time an i250, a superb little printer which uses a different system to Epson, cheap cartridges from Ebuyer.

A 3 in one is an excellent chioce.
I thoroughly recommend them.
I have never looked back since getting mine.
Make sure it has a photo printer though.
Your average printer will not print out photo quality snaps onto glossy paper.
Check out the speeds for printing.
The greater the print-outs per minute the better.
Prices may start from £99.99 though, way over your budget.
Check out what the others have been saying though about the differences between buying inks and those containing heds plus inks.
I use Lexmark.
I had a Lexmark printer only before and was very happy with it hence I went for them again.
I recommend you buy from experience as I did.
They use single cartridges for all purposes - I lie. Black for black & white. Colour is obvious.
Other manufacturers confuse you with 3-6 colour stuff.
Tot them all together and you find that brand new they all cost near enough the same as the originals.
I do not recommend refills.
Yep,
3 in one's give that professional edge to all works.
If it is just personal, a printer will do.
Make sure equally your 3-1 is a standalone copier too - this allows you to make photocopies without your pc being on.

before you buy any brand first check out how much it's gonna cost you for consumables, some deals look very good untill you have to replace the inkjet cartridges.

Have I just dropped a clanger bought a Lexmark Z617 printer from Morrissons 24.99 and am pleased with it but just looking up the prices for ink,
Lexmark high res Black Inkjet cartridge no 17- 12.89.
Lexmark high res Colour inkjet cartridge no 27- 13.89. (cant find pounds sound its not working!)
This was from cartridge monkey.
So 26.78 for both more than the printer costs!.
Please tell me they can be bought cheaper.

my 2 cents
the more things it can do, the more can go wrong with it.
I've been using a Canon PIXMA iP100 for about a year now, and it's been faultless.
better still, if you shop around you can get refills for just over a pound each
what more could you ask

For compatible cartridges, like the poster above I can also recommend North Devon Computers.
Cost me £2.73 for a set of carts for my sister's old Epson Stylus Color 600, including 1st class delivery and the item arrived before something I ordered on the same day from Dabs, postage from Dabs was £3.24
Fairly good quality printouts too.
Wouldnt buy a Lexmark, cost too much to run and dont last long. Epson all the way

Prozak,
The majority appear to be in favour of you getting an Epsom, buddy.
Think you should go with the flow.
Again I lied about all-in-one's starting from £99.99.
That I realised after I posted for the speedier spec.
You can in fact get an all-in-one for as little as £59.99. (£49.99 is possible on special offers or if you shop around)
Scan documents,
Print documents
&
Use as a standalone printer.
Kilty,
I will happily recommend a Lexmark anyday.
The only reason I changed was because I wanted a printer that could print out photo's.
My Z11 did not have the facilities to hold a photo ink cartridge, I still have it and intend to give it away to a relative abroad.
&
Lexmark all-in-one's can be bought as little as £60.
Like all other people I do agree Lexmark print cartridges are a little pricey.
Hope no feelings in my mentions, Kilty. Just defending my own .
