firstly congratulations!!!
is a great board for "Marriage, Relationships, Health, Babies and Families"
don't go mad and buy anything at all yet apart from a tub of folic acid tablets if you have not got them for your wife already
you will be amazed how much stuff will be given to you, how much you can get from boot fairs, ebay etc. and most importantly how much stuff you really do not need!
if and when the time comes and you decide to buy some new things then I can recommend a trip to kiddicare near Peterborough
I c an also recommend for parenting tips of pregnancy, breastfeeding, cloth nappies and all sorts!

There are lots of websites that carry M&P stuff. As we are also baking currently, I have been doing my research. If you would like, PM me, and I will email you a list of all my favourites of sites selling little people stuff...

Congrats Pete, to you and your wife.
My wee boy is five months now, you will love it!.....
Now some advice......firstly: its "MAMAs and PAPAs" lol!!
yes their stuff is great quality. We have the FREESTYLER Push chair, comes as a travel system with Buggy , car seat, base for seat, cozy toes, rain cover and stuff.
We bought ours from John Lewis, they price match with places (its true---they are "Never Knowingly Undersold"
So try there if you are buying a new pram.
The travel system is great as the baby sits in the car seat on the buggy from birth till 7-9 months, unless you have a brusier like mine!!!!!! Ant the buggy can be used from birth till aged 2 or whenever they stop needing it!!
Have a look at their site, but in my expereince buying direct from M + P is far more expensive, however it lets you see their range.
John Lewis is your best bet for new, if you dont mind second hand - try Ebay.
As for other bits and bobs, You will get LOADS of gifts, so only buy the basics - ASDAs baby clothes are excellent quality and very reasonable.
Best wishes to you and your wife - Make sure she enjoys being fussed over!!! Hope this has been of some help. Would be happy to help more.

Do not be in too much of a hurry to buy or order stuff as I found out I was expecting twins after both the g.p. and specialist had told me firmly that there was no reason to suppose this.

re supplements
make sure they are ones suitable for pregnancy as regular multi vitamins are not suitable
there are some types of vitamin that shoudl be avoided in high dose such as vit A etc.

Congrats!!!! Children are the best things that can happen to you but are very hard work!!!
A lot of the Mamas and Papas stuff is simply feeding off their well-known name. Much better to actually work out what you NEED rather than what you want.
Remember that babies grow at a ridiculous rate when they are first born so don't be tempted to buy loads of expensive newborn size clothing! Bedding's a good option if you're opting for a cot bed as you're looking at a good 3 year year's worth of use. Have got a cot bed for my little boy but he's still using it as a cot at min (Thank God!!!) :
Also, don't go overboard on travel system as you'll probably use it far less than you anticipate! And, most importantly, try to enjoy the tiny baby stage as it is over far too quickly! Although the sleepless nights seem to last forever!! :-*

Hi and congratulations!
We too went for M&P stuff (pushchair was pliko which is very good) and nursery decor (zeddy & rhubarb!) its very good quality stuff and i spent a lot of time researching and comparing. We actually bought most of our M&P stuff from a small independant nursery shop in Epsom. Hopefully you have a small shop near you where they can source the same products direct from M&P. Its definately worth asking as we saved nearly 20% as we just gave them the whole order (cot, pushchair, car seat, changing table, highchair etc etc - you get the picture!) they were happy to offer a discount and the service was great so we keep going back.
I can also highly recommend this site, generally the cheapest out of the online sites and stuff arrives so quickly.

Hi there
Congratulations. Regarding M&P, I can't say that I have any direct experience of what they offer across the range, but all I will say is that there are some other good brands out there... for example BabyDan always have very reliable, user-friendly stuff. All I suggest is that you do your research and you get what you pay for. I never go out looking for a brand, I go looking for a bargain.
Regarding Argos, you get (or, rather, don't get) what you pay for. Everything I have bought from Argos in the last couple of years has broken... everything. Cheap, tacky - they are not bargains, because they need to be replaced. I'm never going to use them again.

Hi , I have a little boy who is nearly two and after alot of hard work is a rewarding fun little boy.
I recently went into my local Big W - there may be one close to you. They have started to stock some of the Mamas and Papas range at a cheaper price than the shops.
Also Boots stock Mamas and Papas ranges. I'm not sure if the items are any cheaper but think of all the Boots points that you would collect. We managed to collect hundreds of points when my boy was born and used the points to buy him clothes and toys when he was a few months old.
Good luck and hope everything goes well.

never ever buy from the Mamas & Papas shops is first advice, go in Yellow Pages and under nursery equipment or prams find all the M&P stockists/dealers instead, more or less guaranteed to be cheaper(our local independent was about £70 cheaper on the PLiko P3 travel system thing with car seat), also often has some of their range at better prices(we bought most of the nursery decoration/bedding online, and got the pram/carseat/cot from the local shop). I would also say like others to wait a while before getting everything, a) because, well you never know and b) because you'll realise you've no sodding space to keep it all in!
